A Truly Epic Experience (My thoughts on Epic Universe!)

Image
Hey friends, it has been quite a while since I last wrote on here, but now my semester has ended and I'll do my best over the summer to catch up a bit on some topics I'd love to talk about! First of all, about a month ago, I took a trip with my family down to Orlando, and during that time, my brother and I went to Universal's newest park, Epic Universe. It has been a really long time coming, and I was excited for this park when I saw the first trailer when they put it out several years ago, so I hope you'll join me today as I talk a little bit about the day that I had at Epic Universe.  The Chronos, welcoming us into the world of Epic Universe! So Many Worlds to Choose From!      You enter the park through the Chronos, a portal that leads you into Celestial park, the point of convergence between the four main areas that make up this part, but to just introduce it as an entrance does it a bit of a disservice, to be honest. Celestial Park was the on...

Jesse and Polaris: Into the Unknown (Spoilers ahead for Control and Frozen II)

Image
In 2019, we got the game Control . If you know me, it's entirely possible that you've heard me talk about this game, and I've written about it at least twice here on my blog, so I don't want to go too deep into the deeper themes, but I just wanted to write a little something with Control Resonant coming out this year. In one post, I talked about how it's kind of beautiful how Jesse is able to find herself and take her place as the Director of the Federal Bureau of Control and becomes the one in charge of facing the things that go bump in the night, even though there are so many threats to be overcome even in the first hours of her new inherited job. Today I would like to focus on Jesse's bond with Polaris, and a little bit about believing in yourself, even if your task is so overwhelming. It's been a while since I've written something like this, so it won't be too long today, but I do hope you'll enjoy the long awaited return.     I don...

A late anniversary wish this year! (Five years of this blog!)

Hey friends, it's been a while! I missed all of the last few months, and along with that, I missed a pretty important reminder, that my blog has been around another whole year! As of September, my blog is 5 years old. I need to get caught up a bit on lots of things this week and I'm sorry that I've been gone so long. As I said several months ago, I've been working on taking a few classes on top of my work responsibilities, and it has just taken a lot out of me, I hope you understand! Without further ado, let's talk!     When I started this blog a long time ago, I didn't think that much about it. I was going more than a little stir-crazy during the Covid 19 pandemic, I had been sending what felt like endless resumes out to big jobs that I was interested in, and heard almost nothing back. I also had been thinking about starting a Youtube channel or blog when I was in college, but just never got around to it. This pandemic marked my chance to finally start somethi...

September Direct! Finally! (Thoughts on the Nintendo direct on September 12, 2025)

Image
Well friends, another September Nintendo Direct has come and gone, and this one felt significantly meatier than some others that we've had in the past few months. Of course, we've had a few recently over specific games like Mario Kart World , Donkey Kong Bananza , and Kirby Air Riders , and a Partner Showcase as well as an Indie World, but there's something to be said about a true Nintendo Direct. We got an hour of new games and announcements this morning (at time of writing this), and I'm so happy to report some of them to you all if you didn't have time to watch! Pretty Packed Presentation!     The Nintendo Direct began this morning by talking about Super Mario Bros ' 40th anniversary. The original game came out 40 years ago as of September 13, and they had a lot of things to show off to celebrate! Miyamoto came out to announce some new exhibits being put out at the Nintendo Museum in Kyoto, as well as sharing the fact that Nintendo is sponsoring the Kyo...

Lots of news and so little time! (Thoughts on Kirby Air Riders Direct and Gamescom Opening Night Live presentations)

Image
Of course, I ended my last post by saying that I'll probably not be able to write as frequently as I'm going back to school this week, but we did get two presentations yesterday (August 19), so I'll do my best to talk about them! We're still just barely out of the summer season down here, so in a way, this was kind of like a continuation of Summer Game Fest, even though that event was back in June. Time is truly a wild and wacky construct, isn't it? Geoff Keighley was back hosting Gamescom Opening Night Live from Cologne yesterday afternoon (as I was getting out of my first class), but first, we had a 45 minute presentation from Masahiro Sakurai about Kirby Air Riders . Since that's the one I was able to watch all of, I'll talk about that first. A Packed Day!     Kirby Air Riders was briefly teased back in April during the Switch 2 reveal stream, the same stream that showed off Mario Kart World , Donkey Kong Bananza , and a few other titles, but it on...

So many games... (Thoughts on UFO 50)

Image
Hey friends, we got a Indie World Showcase last week and with it came two announcements that I've been looking forward to for a long time. The first one was an announcement for the release date of Mina the Hollower , the new game from Yacht Club Games, which is coming out on Halloween, They also put out a demo for the game which was really good, and makes me excited for it all over again. The other announcement that I've really wanted for a while was the announcement and shadowdrop of UFO 50 , a game that took the internet by storm when it came out last Fall. I've only been playing it for a few days, and honestly I don't have any deep thoughts yet, because I haven't even played all 50 of the games yet, but I thought I should get some early thoughts out while I'm still going through and playing them all. I hope you're excited for some 8 and 16-bit era fun, because that's what I'll be talking about today. What's In A Game?     The first thing...

Monkeying around has never been more fun! (Donkey Kong Bananza in review)

Image
When I was a kid, I got Donkey Kong 64 along with my Nintendo 64, even though I picked it up a long time after they were off the market. It was the Nintendo Wii's time and I saw the older console with the Expansion Pak in it, which is what you needed to play this one massive game. I loved that game, though I never got even close to the end of it. Why am I talking about Donkey Kong 64 ? It was the one and only fully 3D adventure game for the ape for over 25 years. It came out in 1999, so it's been a while. There hasn't been any type of Donkey Kong focused game to come out since Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze in 2012, so I was really excited for this new adventure with everyone's favorite tie-wearing gorilla, Donkey Kong. There are many reasons for DK to get less love from Nintendo, for one thing, the rights are all weird with Rare, the creators of the Donkey Kong Country series on the SNES, as well as the aforementioned DK64. Rare was purchased by Microsoft ...
