Looking forward to the future! (New Year's Eve post!)

Hey there, friends! Last year during this time, I spent some time talking about some favorite games of mine from the past year. Since I already included some of those in my post from my birthday this year, I'm mainly going to talk a bit about all of the games that are projected to come out in 2022! I will put in little bits and pieces of what I played this year and what some of my favorite games were this year, but for the most part, I'll try to stick to the new stuff. Enough intro, let's get into the meat and potatoes and hopefully find some stuff that you're interested in along the way! A few favorites from 2021!     First of all, this has been another very long year, to the point where I can't really remember exactly what I played this year versus last year, but I'll do my best to focus on this year's games.  The Last of Us Part 2 was a game that came out in 2020, but I didn't have a chance to play it until this year. Of course, there are many

Christmas Post 2: Electric Christmas Boogaloo!

Merry Christmas Eve, friends. Another year has come and gone with us still stuck inside for large chunks of the year, but we're slowly getting closer and closer to the end I hope. The latest mutation of Covid, is wreaking havoc around us, so let's stay in and talk a little bit about another of my favorite parts of Christmas, the live action movies. Last year I focused on the Nickelodeon specials as well as Arthur's Perfect Christmas, but at the end of that post, I reiterated my love of Christmas movies and talked specifically about Elf and How the Grinch Stole Christmas , though I didn't have enough time or space to get into my full thoughts about those movies. Hang the stockings by the fireplace and let's get ready for some Christmas magic. The best way to spread Christmas cheer...     Few movies have been quoted as often as Elf in my house all through my childhood and well into my adulthood, and there's a good reason for that. There are a lot of reasons

Another year in the books! (Thoughts on this year and my birthday)

Hi friends, I'm Jonathan, writer of the Self-Proclaimed Dreamer, and it's my birthday tomorrow. It seems wild that another year has already gone by, but time is moving in such a weird way that in one sense it seems like it has taken an eternity for another year to pass, and then in another, it seems to have flashed by in the blink of an eye. Not as much has changed in the past year as we would have liked, and that goes for me as well as so many others. I continue getting better and better at honing my writing, and honestly I'm pretty proud of the work I've done so far. That being said, I hope that in the next year, I'll be able to get a position that is a bit more lucrative in this sort of field as I'm just doing this as a labor of love currently. This post is more a look back at this year and what I've experienced in it, and especially focus on things that I've been able to write about, even if I haven't had too many crazy experiences this yea

The difference between 2D and 3D (Metroid Prime in review)

Image
In the year 1994, Super Metroid came out and was met with critical and commercial success almost right away, and in the years to come, Metroid as a franchise laid completely dormant aside from Samus appearing in Super Smash Bros . for the Nintendo 64. There wouldn't be a true return to form until 2002, where two Metroid games arrived to the market on the same day. Metroid Fusion on the Game Boy Advance and Metroid Prime on the Gamecube both hit the market in November 2002, and though they both represented the beloved space-exploration series, they were two very different games to say the least. Metroid Fusion was the continuation of the Metroid series as it had come so far, even being called "Metroid 4" as soon as you booted it up. This was the 2D Platformer that we all expected from the franchise, while the other game was something new and experimental that Retro Studios brought to the table. Today I'd like to talk about this different take on the Metroid fo

Is it really that time again? (Game Awards thoughts!)

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, December is now upon us, and while we reflect on the past year, we have quite a few things to look forward to in the coming days! While there is indeed a new Spider-Man movie that is coming out on the 17th that broke all kinds of movie theater websites when the tickets went live this past Monday, there is something else that I'm focusing on today. What could it be? Is there a dashing wannabe journalist/Self-Proclaimed Dreamer that's having a birthday soon? Yes, and thank you for all thinking that I'm dashing, but I'm not talking about myself today. Next Thursday, December 9, The Game Awards will come about once again. Geoff Keighley's wonderful night of video game appreciation and confusing bits of spectacle (looking at you, Green Day) is back again this year. These award shows should never be taken too incredibly seriously, as you can make up your own mind on what the game of the year is, but I still think it's a fun
