The tale of the family man (Resident Evil 7 story recapped)

Happy halloween, my friendly goblins and ghouls, and though the spooky holiday is still a few days off, it's that time of year again to tell a tale. A tale that's sure to frighten and delight the living and dead alike, and shake you down to the core of your being. Okay, it's not going to be that scary, as I'm not a very scary guy, I just wanted to channel a bit of Vincent Price there to get us appropriately in the mood. Last October, I talked about the stories of the first three games in the Resident Evil series, and today, I'm going to jump a good bit farther. I would tell the stories of 4, 5, and 6 today, but honestly I haven't played those in a long time and I want to keep it fresh, meaning that today I'm talking about Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil 8: Village . As you may recall, the first three games were all centered around the Umbrella Corporation, a pharmaceutical company that created a virus that turned people into zombies. 7 a

An Inkredible display of creativity! (Splatoon 3 story in review)

Have you ever felt like every "shooter" game is very similar? There are so many games that take place in grim and gritty war-torn societies where you have to run through muddy trenches and dark lakes that it's nice when you have some similar gameplay in a completely different environment. Splatoon 3 is the most recent game in Nintendo's weirdest new IP which began back on the Wii U in 2015. There's not a lot to go over here, but there is more than you would think, so I'll talk about it today. I should note, I'm terrible at the Multiplayer competitive matches that make up the bulk of these games, so I'm mainly going to be talking about the Single-Player campaign, which comes with some weird lore and surprising twists and turns!     Like the first and second games in the Splatoon series, you play as a squid kid, though this time around you can choose between Squid or Octoling (following the Octo expansion from Splatoon 2 ), and the point of the g

It's-a-me, Movie Mario! (Thoughts on the first trailer for the Super Mario Bros. Movie)

Hey friends, I have to be honest about something today. I have always loved the idea of video game movies, even though if you think about them long enough, they are pretty tough to make into that medium. This is where we get the concept that video game movies are always going to be bad no matter what. We are thankfully moving away from those concepts with successful and fun movies like Sonic the Hedgehog (1 and 2) and Detective Pikachu . As I'm sure you've heard, the first trailer for the Super Mario Bros. movie came out last Thursday, and the internet kind of exploded in a mostly positive direction, so this week I'm going to talk a bit about the direction that the movie is going in, as well as my initial thoughts. Let's jump down that warp pipe and get right into it, shall we?     The trailer begins with an extremely menacing Bowser's flying castle (complete with a lava lake) attacking an ice kingdom where penguins come out to protect themselves and are compl

Seems a bit too soon... (The rapid state of remakes)

In the year 2013, Naughty Dog put out a landmark title, immediately praised by nearly everyone who played it. The game was called The Last of Us , and it came out right at the very end of the Playstation 3's lifespan, with Playstation 4 launching only a few months afterwards. The issue with this was that PS4 didn't have the capability to run PS3 games due to the PS3's Processor that had been such a huge selling point for the console at the beginning, but made it nearly impossible to make discs compatible with the next generation. To combat this issue, another version of this game was released for the PS4 in 2014, called The Last of Us Remastered , which was bundled with the "Left Behind" DLC, focusing on Ellie several months before the main game took place. This was all well and good at the time, and the Uncharted series would also get remasters on the PS4 after the first three games in the series had reached massive success on the PS3. This would get more a
