A Super Nintendo Classic Is a Wish Come True! (Super Mario RPG in review)

Image
Hey friends! Are you familiar with the chant, "Geno for Smash Bros ?" Chances are high if you follow the Smash Bros. series at all, but many people have had a hard time understanding the hype around this character as the game hasn't been very accessible for a while. That changed last year when we got a full remake of the original Super Mario RPG, fittingly titled Super Mario RPG . Finally, Geno, Mallow, and Booster among many other original characters have returned in this beautiful and very faithful remake of the original title, so I wanted to talk about it just a little bit today! It's time to equip your Lazy Shells, because we're heading to the Mushroom Kingdom in a very different context! Same Old Story, But with a Big Twist!     So, with this being a Super Mario game, the story begins as most of them do, with Bowser kidnapping Princess Peach, leaving Mario to rescue her. In the opening few minutes of the game, Mario has to charge into Bowser's cast

Why Keep Dragging the Game On if it's Not Fun? (Thoughts on Padding AAA Games)

Hey friends! As you know, I always try to stay positive about things in the gaming space, but today, I'm here to discuss one of my few pet peeves. Wasting the time of the player with a bunch of random side games and modes is something that has been happening for a long time, but I'd like to talk about some of the examples that most infuriate me. I apologize in advance for anyone who loves these side activities, but to me, they really just serve to annoy, and I'm constantly wishing to get back to the part of the game that I actually purchased the game to play.  So Many Card Games!     If you've played any massive game in the past 10 years or so, you've definitely encountered some of this. For some reason, games that are already potentially 100 hours or so feel the need to introduce a card game that will take an obscene amount of time to understand and master. Horizon Forbidden West had one, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth so far has had at least two activities like

Oh the thinks you can think! (Thoughts on Seussical the musical)

Hey there, friends. Have you ever seen a show that just sticks with you for a long period of time? I have one of those for sure, and it's a silly one, but with a lot of heart. Seussical , as you might expect, is a musical all about the characters and stories written by Dr. Seuss, the famed children's writer and poet. The plot of the show mostly follows Horton Hears a Who / Horton Hatches the Egg , but it connects many different stories, and does it in a way that unless you knew all of the stories, you wouldn't know any different. I just thought I'd take a short time today to talk about one of my favorite musicals, which also helped to inspire a more creative side of me. Let's take a day with the Cat in the Hat, shall we? Oh, the Places You'll Go!     As I said, this show goes through many classic stories that Dr. Seuss wrote, and the way that the show progresses is through the eyes of a young boy with an active imagination. He thinks the Cat in the Hat ont

Why does this keep happening? (Thoughts on Xbox studio closures)

Hey there, friends. I unfortunately come with some bad news once again. It's no secret that the past few years have not been kind to game developers, with everyone in the industry being affected in one way or another. More people have been laid off in the past two years than they have been in a long time, and today we have another story of a big studio buying several companies and now shutting them down. Microsoft has announced the closure of, among many smaller ones, Tango Gameworks, the studio behind Hi-Fi Rush and Ghostwire: Tokyo , and Arkane Austin, which most recently made the not-so-good Redfall, but in the past were responsible for Prey . It's always such a shame when you hear smaller studios like these under a massive corporate umbrella being broken down and cannibalized for other studios under the tent. Today I'm going to be delivering a much shorter post, but one that is far more important than others that I've talked about in the past. Nothing but s

Sonic Generations, let's talk about it! (Thoughts on Sonic X Shadow Generations)

Image
Hey there, friends! A while ago, Sega announced Sonic X Shadow Generations during a Sony State of Play presentation and I don't think I paid it the proper respect and attention that it deserved at the time. Today I would love to discuss why I like the original game, and maybe talking about a few quality of life tweaks that could be enjoyable when it comes to this remade version. It's crazy to me that it's been more than 10 years since the original game came out, but I'm glad that we're receiving a new version with some added content! It's time we go fast and cover some of Sonic's history, and see what the future holds for everyone's favorite speedy rodent, and his much edgier friend. Blast from the Past!     Sonic Generations was originally created as a celebration of the Blue Blur's 25th anniversary, and pulled levels from his most famous titles from Sega Genesis through the modern era (at that time, meaning Xbox 360 and PS3), the most recen
