Game Awards Discussion again!

Image
Hey friends, the Game Awards nominees just came out last week, so I think it's about time to discuss my thoughts again. As I say every year, these awards don't really mean anything, so the "Fandom Wars" that surround these events is largely unfounded. Just because your favorite game doesn't win the top prize, it doesn't mean that whatever wins should objectively be your favorite. The entertainment media is built completely on subjectivity, so the idea of there being an objective truth in this manner is silly, but it is a fun time. This shouldn't be too long of a post, I just wanted to get my thoughts out there before the show airs on December 12. I hope you'll bear with me as I dust off my awards suit and prepare for the big night! Gaming's Biggest Night That Doesn't Really Matter...     I'll go ahead and address the elephant in the room right away. Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is nominated for Game of the Year, despite it being ...

What was that? (Funko Fusion in review)

Image
Hey friends, have you ever played a game or watched a movie that made you ask yourself every few seconds, "Who did they make this for?" That is a question that I began asking at the character select screen for Funko Fusion , and a question that I repeated ad nauseum until the game came to a close. I ended up playing all the way through this game, and while I didn't really enjoy my time with it for the most part, there is definitely a lot to talk about in it. I hope you'll bear with me today as I recount one of the strangest games that I've played in some time, and hopefully it'll at least be funny. Today, we're taking a trip to the Funko Wonderworks Factory. An Unexpected Amount of Lore...     Funko Fusion is essentially an effort to make a Lego game with a bunch of different properties, but with Funko Pop figures. It's going to be like Lego Dimensions , but without the real life figures, right? That's what I thought going into the game, but the ...

I'm Going to Go Bananas! (Thoughts on the Donkey Kong Country expansion of Super Nintendo World)

Image
Hey friends! Have you seen the video that Nintendo put out the other day? Shigeru Miyamoto showed around the new expansion for Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan, after several years in development, which followed quite a few years of rumors and hopes for what a new expansion would look like. The new area is based on Donkey Kong Country , which is having a really nice period of nostalgia for it, after the most recent game came out back in 2014 with Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze for Wii U, and unless you count the Switch Port, the DKC series has been dormant since then. We are getting a port of Donkey Kong Country Returns, which was a Wii game, but that hardly counts for a new game either. At the very least, we're getting what looks to be a really cool amusement park land out of the property. Today I'd like to talk just a little bit about this area, and how excited I am for it, even though I still haven't been able to go to either of the versions of Supe...

What does it mean to show yourself?

Hey friends. It feels like these personal posts are coming up much more often now, especially since I am working on a few different courses related to potential vocational calling and betterment, and I hope you won't mind another writing about the things that I'm wrestling with right now. The upside for some of you is that this post will most likely not be quite as long as some that I've written in the past. The classes that I'm taking are making me explore just what it means to be searching. What am I called to, what am I called away from, etc. Many questions have related with me through different songs, weirdly from Disney movies. If you know me, then you actually know that it's not that weird for me to be relating things to Disney (I have my red Disney shirt on even as I type this). The first week, as we were first talking about "doing the next right thing," of course, I thought of the song "Do the next right thing" from Frozen 2, the nex...

It's always a great time for Mario Party! (Super Mario Party Jamboree in review)

Image
The first Mario Party came out for the Nintendo 64 back in 1998, and since then without fail there has been a new one every few years. Sure there was a period of time in the late 2000's and 2010's that the series wasn't doing all that well, Mario Party 10  for Wii U as well as some for the 3DS were not held in as high regard as those that came before. The Switch has been much more fortunate in that realm though, recieving Super Mario Party , then Mario Party Superstars , and now a third game on this one console, Super Mario Party Jamboree ! I would like to talk just a bit about this game today, because it's genuinely a really good time, with a lot of reviewers calling it one of the best Mario Party games ever. I can't speak definitively, of course, as no one truly can, but I'll speak to my experience a little bit today. Let's hop on the hot air balloon and see where it takes us today, shall we? Grab Some Buddies, Time to Jamboree!     Mario Party as a series...
