Gamescom Roundup! (My thoughts on Gamescom Opening Night Live)

If you know me, you know that I'm always ready for more video game news, even if it's not anything that I'm particularly interested in. Fortunately, we got exactly that on Tuesday, August 23 when Gamescom kicked off from Germany with a 2 hour livestream hosted by Geoff Keighley. During the massive stream we got glimpses at so many different projects, as well as full trailers and gameplay showcases that have been in the oven for quite a while. There were so many games here that I just have to focus on a few of them, since there's no way I could have anything interesting to say about each one. There's a lot of stuff to cover, so let's get right to it today!     Sonic Frontiers was probably the game that I was most excited about going into the show, and that's still probably true. To say that this game has had a difficult news cycle to overcome is a major understatement. People have been against this game since IGN put out the first gameplay footage a c

What will Jonny do? (Tick...Tick...Boom! in review)

Am I kidding myself? Is it time to face the music? What purpose do I have in continuing down this path? Time is running out, always ticking forward, but is it worth it to live a life where I don't enjoy what I do? Is it better to be with someone who doesn't understand you than to be alone? These are important questions, and some that pretty much everyone has to face at some point in their lives. This last week, I took the time to watch Tick...Tick...Boom! on Netflix, which is a movie directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda (of Hamilton and In the Heights fame). More than that, however, it is a one-man-show about a period of time in the life of "Rent" playwright, Jonathan Larson, that has been restaged into a different context. In this almost 2 hour movie, it really takes you through this period of Jonathan's life, just before his 30th birthday. Right off the top, I just have to say that I thought this movie was excellent, especially for where I am in my life right n

Even Gods can change (God of War, in review)

In the year 2018, a game came out for the PS4 called God of War. It was a revival for an old IP that Sony had played with since the PS2, with sequels and prequels on the PS3, and PSP, with another collection on PS Vita. The team behind the original titles clearly had a significant change of heart in the years between God of War 3 and this new one, as the tone and the attitudes of Kratos have changed completely here. I'm hoping that I can drum up some anticipation for the new game in the series, God of War Ragnarok , which is coming in November, by recapping some of the interesting bits of God of War here without giving complete spoilers or anything of the sort. There's a lot to cover here, so let's grab our axes and head into the snowy mountains of Midgard. The Story leading into this...     Let us begin with a little history lesson on Kratos. He was a general in the land of Sparta in ancient Greece, and as such, victory was all that mattered to him. Therefore, when

Once upon a time, I was afraid of everything. I don't mean like I was afraid of a lot of things, I was scared of pretty much anything you could think of. I didn't like for people to sing happy birthday to me because it was too loud. I couldn't go to my cousin's graduation because it took place in a theatre with the Comedy and Tragedy masks near the ceiling. The first time I went to Walt Disney World, I was a terrified little kid. I liked looking around the themed areas, but when it came time to actually get on a ride, it was a much less pleasant experience. I only rode three rides the first time that I went to the park when I was in Third Grade: The PeopleMover, Jungle Cruise, and Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin. I was convinced that the PeopleMover was actually Space Mountain whenever it took a turn into that ride, and I was horrified for a moment before I realized that it was still moving at a pretty slow speed. On Jungle Cruise, I was so afraid that they
