A new year dawns!! (New Year's Eve post)

Hi friends! I'm Jonathan, a Self-Proclaimed Dreamer, as you know, and I'm here to talk about the cool stuff from this year and the stuff that looks to be good from next year! Since I covered about half of the year in my birthday post, I'll try my best to recall the cool games that came out at the end of this year, and also just talk about some games that I didn't get a chance to play until this year, even if they came out last year or several years ago! I hope you'll excuse this post being a bit shorter than I normally write. I'm with family this week, so I'm trying my best to not be a hermit. Without further ado, let's get right into it as we begin the celebration (even though the ball won't be dropping until tomorrow)!  How did the second half of 2022 look for me?     Kirby's Dream Buffet was a very cute game that was like a flash in the pan. I really enjoyed it, and I thought it was funny that the little Eshop title that cost $15 actual

Christmas Post 3: Revenge of the Holidays

What would you say if I told you about a movie that was so embarrassing that one of the most famous directors in the world had it pulled to never be shown again? No, this isn't how I tell you that Avatar: The Way of Water has been laughed out of theaters, though that would be hilarious. I'm sure the sequel will be fine, of course, but this is a much older project, from a world renowned series that only had one movie under its belt at the time. Star Wars, the phenomena that swept the globe in the mid 1970's was such a big deal here in the US that some of the executives decided that they needed to make it more than a movie franchise (that was in the midst of working on what would be a little known film called Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back ), but an annual tradition, tied to feelings of season's greetings and joy. That's right, today, I'm discussing the Star Wars Holiday Special , a TV special that aired one time in November of 1978 on CBS and

Time keeps moving faster and faster! (Birthday time again!)

Hey friends, I'm Jonathan, the Self-Proclaimed Dreamer, and my birthday is in just a few days. It's wild how this day sneaks up on me and the years just seem to go a lot faster than they used to. Of course, when you're in control of your own schedule and there are no classes to fill your time with, it seems like there are fewer activities to track the time with. Either way, here it is, we've all made it another year, and while I begin my 29th journey around the sun (as I'm going to be 28 in a few days, I had to do the math a moment ago), I'd like to talk a bit about how this year has gone for me. I don't want to get into anything too terribly heavy today, but we'll see where this post goes, shall we?     This year has really been more of the same as the last year, though I've sent out a lot more job applications and did get a handful of interviews. While I am still looking for a more conventional job, I feel like my writing style continues to d

New frontiers for the Blue Blur! (Sonic Frontiers review, some spoilers ahead)

Hey guys, let's be real, we all want Sonic to be good, and we were pretty unanimously disappointed by how Sonic Forces turned out. Sonic Mania was a great time, and things looked extremely promising for what looked like a sequel to Sonic Generations , but Sonic Forces just didn't meet those expectations. It has been about 5 years since that game came out, and finally Sonic is back once again with a very different looking (and feeling) game. Not only is this game a completely new formula for Sonic's gameplay, but also the storyline goes is a very new and unexpected direction. Today I'm going to talk about the newest game in the Sonic franchise, and give a thematically fitting quick review on what I think about it. I have to warn you, everything is not exactly as it seems. The Story this time!     The game begins with Doctor Eggman trying to take control of an ancient power source before he is attacked by robots and sucked into Cyberspace. We then see Sonic, Tail

The end of times has never looked so good! (God of War Ragnarok, in spoiler-free review)

Wow. That's how I would review this game in one word. Santa Monica Studio did a fantastic job with God of War (2018) , and I was worried that the new game in the series that just released, God of War Ragnarok , wouldn't be able to hold up against the incredible feelings left behind from that game. Those fears were entirely unfounded because this game is a jam. I just rolled credits a few minutes ago and I am honestly blown away by so many different things about this game. This game was honestly what came to mind whenever I was trying to make up my mind in the decision between PS5 and Xbox Series X or S first. I thought to myself, "which console will play the sequel to God of War?" So the choice for PS5 was pretty simple, as you can imagine. Today I'll try to keep things brief and spoiler free as I gush for a little while about this game. Get your Leviathan Axe and your Blades of Chaos ready, because it's time to dive into the land of Midgard once again.
